October 27, 2007 19:24 PM Police To Get 2,000 Bullet-proof Vests By Year-end
PUTRAJAYA, Oct 27 (Bernama) — Police will get 2,000 bullet-proof vests by the end of the year and 2,000 more next year for better protection in their crime operations, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.
He said although the actual requirement for the vests could not be determined, police needed a large quantity of vests as more and more operations were being conducted.
“The types of bullet-proof vests to be procured are different between those meant for high and low velocity bullets,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri open house hosted by the Internal Security Ministry here today.
His statement came in the wake of the killing of two detectives during a drug bust in Sungai Buloh on Thursday night.
When asked yesterday why the four detectives who were involved in the ambush were not wearing bullet-proof vests, Musa said its quantity was rather limited and used only during certain operations, and he would be requesting for additional vests to be used for dangerous assignments and patrols.
