Zakaria fetes guests at mansion
Datuk Zakaria Md Deros
PORT Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros opened his controversial mansion to the press for the first time on Tuesday ahead of the Hari Raya celebrations.
The outspoken politician took reporters on a tour of his home, which grabbed the nation’s attention last year as the building was put up without approval from the local council.
The mansion has 21 bathrooms and 16 bedrooms, where his 11 children would occupy one each.
Besides this, the mansion has a swimming pool, several gazebos, an orchard, a two-hole mini golf course, a VIP room, three living rooms, a prayer room, an office, a store room, two rooms for maids, a dining room, a wet kitchen and a dry kitchen.
Palatial: Zakaria’s brightly lit mansion.
His master bedroom, which has a changing room and a jacuzzi, is bigger than a low-cost house.
The floors are high quality marble while the ceiling is fitted with plaster ceiling, decorated panels and crystal chandeliers.
There’s a jacuzzi in the master bedroom’s bathroom.
On Tuesday, Zakaria invited 400 orphans to spend a night at his palatial mansion and he said it would become an annual event.
His family moved into the mansion on Wednesday.
Last year, Zakaria had a run-in with the law for building a mansion without the necessary approval. He was also found to have not paid the assessment for a property of his for 12 years.
Cool sight: A swimming pool is part of the facilities at the mansion.
He and his family were also caught operating an illegal satay restaurant built on government reserve land.
Due to the controversy over the building of the mansion, Zakaria, who succumbed to mounting pressure, had decided not to continue as councillor for the 2007-2008 term.
