RM200 Mln Flood Mitigation Projects Ready By Year-end
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) — A major undertaking costing RM200 million to tackle flood woes is expected to be ready by the end of the year, said Drainage and Irrigation Department director-general Datuk Keizrul Abdullah.
“The plan comprises 40 projects including repairing bridges and widening river banks,” he told reporters after attending an event organised by the department here today.
Keizrul said the government would also implement mid-term and long-term plans to overcome flood problems in several states.
The mid-term initiatives costing RM840 million cover, among others, the Iskandar Development Region, Batu Pahat, Muar, Mersing and Kluang, he said. It is expected to be completed in three years.
Keizrul said a study on the RM6 billion long-term plan would be ready by the middle of next year.
