GEORGE TOWN: Former chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon will take Lim Guan Eng “head on” even if his successor decides not to declassify documents relating to a land controversy.
“It was Guan Eng who insisted on debating the land matter so I will take him on regardless of whether he allows me access to them.
“I am willing to give him the handicap,” he said.
Lim also confirmed he would participate in the debate.
“I am ready to face Dr Koh. I hope we will find the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth pertaining to the land scam issue,” Lim said.
He said this was the final push to discover the truth behind the scam and why those involved were not punished.
Lim said the debate had to take place because of Dr Koh’s refusal to meet up with him on the matter despite several invitations since he took office after the general election.
Organiser Agenda Daily said both participants confirmed yesterday they would be there for the public debate at 9pm on Aug 20. It will be held at the Media Prima studio in Shah Alam or at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Kuala Lumpur.
Lim and Dr Koh had also agreed on the topic of the debate, Kisah Benar Kontroversi Tanah di Pulau Pinang (The True Story Behind the Land Controversy in Penang). The debate, to be moderated by Dewan Bahasa chairman Datuk Johan Jaafar, will also be aired live on either NTV7 or TV9.
Agenda Daily editor Hanafiah Man said about 200 people would be invited to attend the event.
“It is by invitation only as we have to control the crowd. Those interested in attending can fax Agenda Daily at 03-4042 5100,” he said.
Hanafiah said the format of the debate would be similar to the public debate on fuel prices between Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek and PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 15.
Lim and Dr Koh will each speak in six five-minute sessions.
