Syed Bakar’s “Pejabat Pos Kuala Kangsar & Jam Besar (Banjir 1967)” (acrylic on canvas; 2006) is among the works on display at RA Fine Arts.

R A Fine Arts presents an art exhibition entitled “From Kuala Kangsar to…” featuring the works of the alumni and former teachers of Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK).

The exhibition is a showcase of paintings, photography, literature and writings. Among the artworks featured are pieces by Tuanku Jaafar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Almarhum Sultan Idris Afifullah, Datuk Mustapha Mahmud, Hishamuddin Rais, Kamal Zakaria, Nik Ariff Nik Ahmad, Syed Bakar Syed Salim and Zainuddin Jamil.

Photography by Azli Jamil, Hasnul Hassan, Raja Ahmad Aminullah and Munzir Fauzi, and items from private collections of the late Datuk Dr Hisham Albakri Al-Haj, Datuk Mustapha Mahmud and Tunku Datuk Seri Adnan Tunku Besar Burhanuddin are also on display.

Their collections include MCKK neckties in the school’s history, a sarung keris carved by Datuk Mustapha Mahmud and wood carvings by Kuazman Dinkhalish.

The exhibition also has various books which were written by the alumni and former teachers of MCKK. Among them are writings by Ishak Muhammad (Pak Sako), National Laureate Muhammad Salleh, Rehman Rashid, Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad, Datuk Syed Nazri Syed Harun, Datuk Dr Mohd Fadzilah Kamsah, Datuk Rejal Arbee, Tan Sri Mazlan Nordin, Professor Osman Bakar, Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib, Datuk Sri Mohd Effendi Norwawi and many others.
The public will also have the opportunity to learn more about the writings of former teachers of MCKK such as Zainal Abidin Ahmad (Za’ba), Anthony Burgess, Sharon Bakar and Muzaffar Tate.

The guest curator of this exhibition is Zabas (formerly director of Petronas Art Gallery).

The exhibition is on till Jan 7. Venue: No. 6, Jalan Aman, off Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. Viewing hours: 10 am to 6pm (Mondays to Saturdays). Entry is free. Call 03-2161-7341.
